Sliding Screen Door Repair and Rescreening Your screen door keeps falling off for a reason.

Sliding screens ride on small spring-loaded wheels, top and bottom. When the wheels wear or the frame bends, the screen drops out of its track. We fix the rollers and the frame, and put in new mesh when it’s torn.

Signs your screen door needs work

Screen doors take a beating: kids, dogs, wind and the odd patio chair. Most of the damage is fixable.

  • It falls out of the track or has to be lifted back in
  • It drags along the bottom or squeals as it moves
  • The frame is bent or out of square
  • The mesh is torn or pulling out of the frame
  • The latch or handle is broken, so it won’t stay shut
  • The dog has pushed through it again

What we do

What we fix on screen doors

  1. New rollers, set to tension

We replace the top and bottom wheels and set the spring tension so the screen stays in its track but still slides easily.

  2. Straighten the frame

Bent frames are straightened and squared where the aluminum allows, and broken corner pieces are replaced.

  3. Rescreen

The old mesh and spline come out. New mesh is stretched even and rolled into the channel with fresh spline so it stays tight.

  4. Latches and pulls

Broken latches and pulls are replaced, so the screen closes and stays shut.

Why screen doors fall off

A sliding screen is light, and it hangs in the outer channel of the door frame on small rollers. The rollers are spring-loaded: they push the screen up into the top channel and down onto the bottom rail at the same time. When the springs weaken or the frame gets knocked out of square, the screen loses its grip on the track and drops out.

Most of the time that’s a roller and tension fix. If the outer rail is dented, we straighten that too, because a new roller on a bent rail falls right back off.

Rescreening

Screen mesh is held in a groove around the frame by spline, a rubber cord pressed in over it. Florida sun breaks both down, and the mesh goes brittle and the spline shrinks. Rescreening means pulling the old mesh and spline, stretching new mesh evenly and rolling in new spline so it stays tight.

Standard fiberglass mesh suits most doors. If a dog or cat goes through your screen, ask about heavier pet-resistant mesh.

What we don’t do

We don’t replace glass or install new doors. We fix the one you have.

We repair and rescreen sliding screen doors and window screens. We don’t rescreen pool cages or screened lanai enclosures. If a screen frame is too bent to save, we’ll tell you.

FAQ

Screen doors: straight answers

How much does screen door repair cost?

Every door is different, so we don’t guess over the phone. A specialist looks at your door and gives you an exact price, free, before any work starts.

No quotes over the phone, by text or by photo. Several doors? Ask about multi-door savings.

Why does my sliding screen door keep coming off the track?

Usually the rollers have worn or lost their spring tension, so nothing holds the screen in the channel. A bent frame or a damaged outer rail can do it too. New rollers, set to the right tension, are the usual fix.

Can you rescreen my sliding screen door?

Yes. We replace the mesh and spline, and fix the rollers and latch on the same visit if they need it.

Do you rescreen pool cages?

No. We rescreen sliding screen doors and window screens. Pool cages and screened lanai enclosures are a different trade.

Can you fix the screen and the glass door on the same visit?

Yes. If the sliding glass door beside it is dragging or won’t lock, we can work on both while we’re there.
