Sliding Door Off Track Door off the track? Stop sliding it.
A panel that’s off its track can tip, and it won’t close or lock properly. Leave it where it is and keep people clear of it. We’ll put it back on and fix whatever made it jump, so it stays on.

Likely causes
Why doors jump the track
Most common first. The numbers match the drawing.
-
Cause 1: Broken or worn-out rollers Most common
What you’ll see: One bottom corner has dropped onto the track or beside it.
A cracked wheel or a collapsed roller lets that corner fall. With nothing holding it up on the rail, the panel slides off at the next push.
-
Cause 2: A bent or flattened track
What you’ll see: The raised rail under the door is dented, bent over or worn low.
Roller wheels are grooved to ride on that rail. If the rail is bent or worn down, there’s nothing for them to hold on to.
-
Cause 3: Something in the track
What you’ll see: It jumped at one spot, and there’s a pebble or packed sand there.
Push a panel over an obstacle and the rollers ride up and off. Worn rollers make that much easier.
-
Cause 4: Loose at the top
What you’ll see: The top of the panel moves or leans when you touch it.
The top of the panel sits in a channel in the head of the frame. If the panel has dropped low enough, or taken a hard knock, it can slip out of that channel. This is the one to be most careful with: a panel loose at the top can fall.
Before you book
Right now, do this
Nothing here involves lifting or moving the panel.
Don’t try to lift it back on
It looks like it should drop straight back into place. It rarely does. Putting a panel back means taking its full weight and guiding it into the frame at the top and the bottom at once, and impact panels are heavier still. If it slips, it can fall on someone. If a roller is broken, it will come straight off again anyway.
-
Stop sliding it. Every push on a door that’s off its track can bend the frame or drop the panel further.
-
Keep kids and pets away from it, especially if the top moves at all.
-
If it’s standing steady, leave it exactly where it is, even if it’s partly open.
-
Photograph both bottom corners and the top of the panel, and send the photos to us. They help us come with the right rollers.
When to book
Book us before you touch it
A door that’s off its track is a job for us from the start. We’ll get the panel back on safely, then fix what made it jump, whether that’s broken rollers or a bent track. Putting it back without that fix only buys time.
The price comes after we’ve seen it. Every door is different, so we don’t guess over the phone. A specialist looks at your door and gives you an exact price, free, before any work starts.
Same-day or next-day service in our core area.
Send us a photo so we come with the right parts. It isn’t a quote, but it can save a second trip.
The fix
How we fix it
Getting it back on the track is the easy part. Keeping it there is the repair.
-
Sliding door repair
If your slider sticks, drags, rattles or won’t close right, we find the cause and fix the door you have. -
Roller replacement
Worn or rusted rollers replaced so the panel rolls with one hand again. -
Track repair
Dented or worn bottom tracks repaired so the rollers have a straight, clean path. -
Impact & hurricane doors
Mechanical repair on heavy impact sliders: rollers, tracks, locks and alignment. No glass work.
We don’t replace glass or install new doors. We fix the one you have.
Several doors? Ask about multi-door savings.
Can I just lift it back onto the track?
We’d ask you not to. Sliding panels are heavy and awkward, impact panels most of all, and a panel that slips while you’re lifting it can fall on someone. And if a roller is broken, it’ll come straight off again.
Will it just come off again?
Not if the cause gets fixed. Putting a door back on without replacing a broken roller or repairing a bent track only buys time. We fix what made it jump.
Is the door ruined?
Usually not. A door that’s come off its track typically needs rollers, a track repair or both. We don’t replace glass or install new doors. We fix the one you have. If a door can’t be saved, we’ll tell you.
Will it lock while it’s off the track?
Usually not properly. The latch needs the panel sitting straight in the frame to meet the keeper. If it won’t lock, tell us when you book.
How soon can you come out?
Same-day or next-day service in our core area. Serving all of Florida. Outside our core area? Get in touch and we’ll arrange service.
